Thanks for the shout-out! You’ve had some amazing hit posts with WAY more views than any of my pieces. I bet most people who see my Substack think I have a ton more subscribers and views than I actually do. For me, it’s been a more slow and steady growth with some more minor stepwise bumps here and there when compared to yours. Anyways, keep going friend!

Looks like thinking a Substack writer has a ton more subscribers than they actually do is a pretty common thing, judging by the other comments here!

You should definitely turn paid subscriptions on. I'd consider paying for your content. In fact, before this post my mental model of this newsletter was that you probably already had several hundred paid subscribers.

Oh no, did I accidentally out myself as not that popular 😅

Congrats on 100+1 posts! I don't remember when I added you to my RSS feed (which probably doesn't show up in your subscriber counts), but it was probably somehow related to your post on Classical Futurist/LessWrong titled "Guided by the Beauty of One’s Philosophies".

You're spot on about the importance of the blog's aesthetic. If someone sent me a random screenshot of any of the tens of Substacks I'm subscribed to, yours is the only one I could pick out by aesthetic alone.

Another possible source for public domain images: The Public Domain Review! I highly recommend their post card packs! https://publicdomainreview.org/

Thank you, that comments on the aesthetic means a lot! Yeah, "Guided by the Beauty of One’s Philosophies" was probably my most successful post outside of this blog. And I love Public Domain Review!

Came for the sweet name a couple of weeks ago, stayed for the delightful writing. Enjoying the honest commentary and I also echo Austin James’s comment, I too was under the impression you had several hundred paying subscribers! Plus the medieval dragons are sweet. As someone also working on making a legitimate and fun corner of my own in Substack, this is a wonderful read for reflection and inspiration! 👏🏻
